What’s Happening?

Run Army is making its return to Townsville on April 6, 2025, rallying the community to raise funds for Queensland Police Legacy (QPL). The event, which also includes a virtual option, features 5km and 10km runs or walks, allowing participants to show support for first responders and their families.

Why It Matters?

The initiative provides crucial financial support to police families who have lost a loved one or are facing terminal illness. Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers and the broader community come together not only for fitness and camaraderie but also to give back to those who protect and serve Queensland.

Local Impact

Townsville’s emergency services community plays a vital role in disaster response, as demonstrated in recent events like Tropical Cyclone Alfred. This event allows locals to directly support QPS families in need, strengthening the bond between first responders and the community.

By the Numbers

  • Since 1971, Queensland Police Legacy has supported 285 families and 507 dependent children.
  • Currently, 58 police families are receiving ongoing support from QPL.
  • The event welcomes runners and walkers of all abilities, ensuring everyone can participate or donate to make a difference.

Zoom In

QPS Acting Assistant Commissioner Rhys Wildman, who is participating this year, highlighted the importance of the event: “Through my 37 years of policing, I have dealt with many families supported by Queensland Police Legacy and seen first-hand the benefits these funds provide.”

He also emphasised how some children who received QPL support later joined the QPS themselves: “Seeing those children grow up and complete their education and then for some to go on and join the QPS to give back to the community, I couldn’t be prouder.”

Zoom Out

Run Army is more than just a fitness event—it’s a statewide movement uniting Queenslanders in honouring first responders. Events are happening in Brisbane on March 30 and Townsville on April 6, with a virtual option allowing even more participation.
