What’s happening?

Mount Isa’s Donnie Rutherfurd delivered what was described as a “masterclass in consistency and composure” across two massive nights of competition at the PBR Monster Energy Beaudesert Invitational.

Rutherfurd was the only cowboy to cover all three bulls across the event. In front of a fired-up capacity crowd, he sealed the buckle with a Championship Round ride, closing out the weekend unbeaten.

The Beaudesert Invitational marks his second event win of the 2026 season. He previously claimed victory at the PBR Sandstone Point Touring Pro on December 31.

Queensland riders filled the top three placings. Ethan Coster of Miriam Vale finished second, while 2025 Gold Buckle champion Kurt Shephard of Mareeba secured third.

The YETI Bull of the Night title went to Stetson Nirvana from Dittmann Bucking Bulls after a standout performance in the arena.

With the first two day Monster Energy Tour event of the season now complete, attention turns to the evolving national leaderboard and the race toward the PBR Origin arena later this year.

Why it matters?

Rutherfurd’s win strengthens his position in the 2026 title race and keeps him firmly in contention for this year’s Gold Buckle.

He now sits No. 2 in the National Standings, placing him within striking distance of the top spot as the season gathers momentum.

The result also sharpens the contest for selection in the Queensland and New South Wales teams for the PBR Origin Series. As the leaderboard tightens, every ride counts.

For Queensland, the weekend reinforced the state’s strength in depth, with experienced champions and rising contenders both delivering under pressure.

Local impact

Queensland riders dominated the Beaudesert arena, claiming the top three placings and multiple junior buckles.

From Mount Isa to Miriam Vale, Mareeba and Bajool, regional communities were strongly represented on one of the biggest stages in Australian bull riding.

With senior contenders and juniors both stepping up, the Sunshine State continues to assert itself as a powerhouse within the national competition.

By the numbers

The statistics underline just how dominant the weekend was for Rutherfurd and the Sunshine State riders.

  • Rutherfurd finished with an event aggregate score of 247.40 and collected 96 event points for his flawless performance.

  • He now holds 532.50 points in the National Standings, where he sits second overall in Australia.

  • Ethan Coster secured second place on 160.50, while Kurt Shephard finished third on 154.80. Stetson Nirvana posted a 43.50 point bull score to earn YETI Bull of the Night honours.

Zoom in

Queensland’s Taj Everingham from Bajool, near Rockhampton, delivered a standout performance across the Challenger and Junior divisions.

He claimed the first night buckle with a 79.50 point ride aboard Dirty Socks. On Saturday night, he backed it up with a 74.10 point ride to win the Rising Stars division.

Across a record number of junior nominations, the next generation of Australian bull riding talent also made their mark. Buckle winners included:

  • Pee Wee Division, Kaileb Hall from Singleton, NSW

  • Junior Division, Nate Wilson from Calliope, QLD

  • Senior Division, Hunter Ross from Boddington, WA

  • Rising Stars, Taj Everingham from Bajool, QLD

The depth across divisions points to a strong pipeline of talent emerging from both Queensland and interstate.

Zoom out

With Beaudesert complete, the Monster Energy Tour now heads south.

Action continues in Nowra on May 9, with tickets going on sale this Friday March 6. Tickets for Cairns, Melbourne and Adelaide also go on sale March 6.

Grand Finals tickets will be available from March 20.

The PBR Origin Series in Newcastle, Brisbane and Sydney is already on sale, setting the stage for interstate rivalry later in the season.

What to look for next?

The focus now shifts to Nowra on May 9 as riders continue their push toward the 2026 Gold Buckle.

As the national standings tighten and Origin selection looms, consistency across upcoming tour stops will be critical for those chasing a Queensland or New South Wales jersey.
