Colleen Powell Recognised for Exceptional Cleaning Standards

Townsville University Hospital’s support services cleaner, Colleen Powell, has been honoured with the Golden Cart award during this year’s Operational Service Week celebrations.

Colleen’s dedication to maintaining impeccable cleanliness in the hyperbaric medicine department has earned her a remarkable monthly audit percentage of 99.85% over the past year.

Going Above and Beyond Cleaning Standards

Colleen’s outstanding achievement has not gone unnoticed. Grateful for the recognition, she expressed her overwhelming joy at receiving the award. “Working in health, we must ensure we are cleaning to the highest standards,” Colleen said.

“There is a lot to clean in the hyperbaric department, and I also assist with moving patients. I enjoy building a good rapport with both patients and the team.”

Second to None in Birth Suite Unit Cleaning

Colleen’s exceptional cleaning skills extend beyond the hyperbaric medicine department. She also maintains the birth suite unit, which received an impressive score of 99.80%.

The senior coordinator of support services, James Slade, praised Colleen’s dedication, stating that if there had been a second prise awarded, she would have undoubtedly claimed it.

Fostering Friendly Rivalry and Morale

The introduction of the Golden Cart award last year has not only ensured the hospital’s cleaning standards remain top-notch but has also sparked a friendly rivalry among the staff.

Monthly reviews guarantee the maintenance of the high standards required in healthcare. James Slade noted, “It’s essential that we work to the highest standards, but it’s nice to see the team’s morale grow with this initiative as they have a bit of fun.”

Acknowledging the Unsung Heroes

As we celebrate Operational Service Week, it is crucial to recognise the army of operational service staff across the health service.

These dedicated individuals carry out essential tasks that keep everything spick and span, ensure patients are well-fed and moved, and maintain safe facilities and functioning equipment.
