At the Workplace Health and Safety Queensland Work Well Awards 2023, the Townsville City Council secured the “Most Significant Improvement to Work Health and Safety Performance” award.

Mayor Jenny Hill praised the council for its commitment to ensuring the safety of every worker, underscoring its pledge to “improving both our internal and external environments.”

With a workforce of over 1,700 employees across 40 different locations, the council’s dedication to safety is unwavering.

Engineering Solutions for Community Safety

The council’s parks maintenance team received recognition at the IPWEA Queensland and Northern Territory Annual Conference for their innovative engineering solutions.

These approaches address the issue of objects thrown during open space maintenance. The team has improved personal and community safety by introducing improvements, allowing roadside work to continue without endangering motorists.

Mayor Hill commended the team’s dedication to improving the city’s safety measures.

Celebrating Excellence in Community Services

Townsville City libraries also secured a remarkable victory, winning the Gold award for their ‘Citylibraries Riverway Build and Grand Opening‘ campaign at the Queensland Public Libraries Association Local Government Awards.

Mayor Hill highlighted the project’s international influence on public library design and service trends, which brought together knowledge, culture, and community in a remarkable space.

The grand opening saw thousands of residents from all over Townsville in attendance, underscoring the project’s dedication to community spirit and connections.
