What’s happening?
For the tenth year running, Queensland Rail has launched its popular 2-for-1 Outback Rail fares, giving North Queenslanders a chance to travel for less this summer.
The offer is available for journeys taken between 1 November 2025 and 31 March 2026 on three western long-distance services: the Spirit of the Outback, Westlander, and Inlander.
The initiative encourages locals to experience the beauty of the outback while supporting regional towns along the way.
Why it matters
Queensland Rail Executive General Manager Regional Operations Candice Heine said affordable fares make a real difference for people in regional areas.
“This year marks ten years of our ‘2 for 1’ Outback Rail sale and we’re thrilled to welcome customers onboard,” Ms Heine said. “We know that transport options can be limited in some areas, and this fare helps make travel more accessible – whether it’s for a holiday, to visit family, or simply to enjoy the journey.”
She added that the sale gives passengers the chance to enjoy Queensland’s unique rail experiences while saving money and helping regional businesses thrive.
Local Impact
Townsville’s rail passengers stand to benefit most from the Inlander route, which links communities across the state’s interior. The offer is expected to attract more travellers westward, increasing tourism and spending in towns along the line.
