What’s Happening?

James Cook University will bring its 2026 Open Day program to Townsville.

The event will be held at the Begebu Yamba campus in Douglas. Future students and their families can attend course presentations, speak with student advisors and hear from current students.

Course areas include Business, Commerce, Law, Social Work, Teaching and Education, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Engineering, Arts, and Physical and Social Sciences.

JCU Vice Chancellor and President Professor Simon Biggs said the Open Days were open to the wider community.

“Everyone is welcome to attend, whether you are curious about studying yourself or are a parent, partner or friend of someone looking to study,” Professor Biggs said.

“Our open days provide wonderful opportunities to check out our campus, explore our facilities, attend presentations and chat with future student advisors about study opportunities available at JCU Mackay.

“We’ll also have current students there on the day that you can ask questions about student life, accommodation, life in the region and anything else you’d like to know about their lived experiences as JCU students.”

Professor Biggs also encouraged regional Queenslanders to see what JCU offers close to home.

“I’d really encourage people from the Mackay community and surrounding regions to take this chance to get a first-hand look at what JCU can offer them as regional Queensland’s premier tertiary education institution.”

Why It Matters?

Open Days give students a clearer view of university life before they apply.

They also help families understand course options, campus support and study pathways in one place.

For Townsville students, the June 21 event gives direct access to JCU staff and current students at the Douglas campus.

Local Impact

The Townsville Open Day is aimed at local students, families and people from surrounding North Queensland communities.

It gives future students a chance to ask practical questions about study, accommodation, student life and living in the region.

The event also highlights JCU’s role in regional education, with campuses and study centres across Queensland.

  • Sunday, June 21 is the key Townsville date, with JCU Open Day set for the Begebu Yamba campus in Douglas.
  • Five JCU Open Days are listed for 2026, covering Mackay, Townsville, Mount Isa, Emerald and Cairns.
  • The 2026 Open Day program runs from June 7 to July 24, giving regional students several campus events to attend.
