What’s happening?
IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced a strategic partnership with Luxora Hotels to reintroduce the iconic Holiday Inn brand to Townsville. The new Holiday Inn Townsville will open in early 2026 following a full refurbishment. Located at the intersection of Stanley Street and Flinders Street in the CBD, the hotel will feature 93 rooms, an all-day dining restaurant, flexible event spaces, and IHG’s signature “Open Lobby” concept. La Vie Hotels and Resorts will operate the property.
Why it matters?
This partnership marks a significant milestone for Townsville’s hospitality sector and Queensland’s broader tourism growth. The project aligns with IHG’s regional expansion strategy and brings a globally trusted brand back to North Queensland. It also reflects growing investor confidence in Townsville as a key destination for both business and leisure travel.
Cameron Burke, IHG’s Development Director for Australasia & Pacific, explained, “We’re delighted to be partnering with Luxora Hotels to bring our Holiday Inn brand to Townsville. We look forward to supporting Luxora in its vision to create Townsville’s leading midscale hotel.”
He added, “Queensland is in an exciting growth phase. Several Olympic events will be held in Townsville. Combined with the city serving as a strategic hub for industries including mining, energy and defence, this contributes to Townsville’s thriving economic and tourism landscape.”
Local Impact
The reintroduction of Holiday Inn will support local businesses and tourism operators, enhance the city’s conference and accommodation offerings, and provide employment opportunities. It will also reinforce Townsville’s reputation as a hub for regional hospitality and international-standard visitor experiences.
James Zhao of Luxora Hotels said, “We’re proud to collaborate with IHG to bring this exciting project to Townsville. Holiday Inn Townsville will deliver the exceptional, warm and welcoming experiences the brand is known for across the world and support the region’s tourism and business sectors. We are also pleased to be working with La Vie Hotels and Resorts who will operate the hotel.”
