What’s happening?
From 25 July to 2 August 2025, the Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM) will once again transform Townsville-Gurambilbarra into a world-class cultural and holiday destination. With performances from 36 extraordinary musicians, including 11 international artists and 13 debuts, AFCM 2025 blends music and tropical escape like no other. Festival-goers can now book specially curated holiday packages starting from $499 per person, combining concerts with top local accommodation and island experiences.
Why it matters
AFCM isn’t your average classical music event. Artistic Director Jack Liebeck has reimagined the festival to suit holidaymakers, culture buffs, and sun-seekers alike. “The critical thing is creating a festival that’s immersive – not just for music lovers but for anyone craving creativity, connection, and sun-drenched adventure,” Liebeck said.
Local Impact
Held in partnership with the Queensland Government, Arts Queensland, and Townsville City Council, AFCM boosts the region’s profile as a cultural and tourism destination. It highlights Townsville-Gurambilbarra’s hospitality, natural beauty, and event capability. The festival helps drive bookings across accommodation, dining, and local attractions – including Magnetic Island.

The 2024 Festival generated $19.98 million in spending across Queensland – up 114% from 2023.

A total of 22,106 attendees took part across all events – a 31% increase from the previous year.

Interstate and overseas visitation rose by 16%, reinforcing AFCM’s national and international appeal.
