What’s happening?

The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee has outlined its next phase of work during an update to the International Olympic Committee at the IOC’s 145th Session in Milan.

The update was delivered by President Andrew Liveris and CEO Cindy Hook, ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games beginning on 6 February.

Mr Liveris confirmed Brisbane 2032 will announce its first commercial partner in the second quarter of this year. He said the partner will be one of Australia’s largest companies.

The committee also confirmed it is preparing a major presence at the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games, including a national Australia House. It will be the first Australia House since the Sydney 2000 Games.

Why it matters

The update places emphasis on timing, certainty and momentum.

Clear timelines for commercial partners and venue planning are key signals to the IOC, industry and the public. The LA28 presence positions Brisbane 2032 as the next host in line, well before the Games cycle turns fully toward Australia.

Local impact

For Queensland, the update reinforces that preparation is moving into an active delivery phase.

With venues underway and procurement open, local businesses and communities are expected to see more opportunities to engage with Brisbane 2032 throughout 2026 and beyond.

By the numbers

  • Brisbane 2032 confirmed its first commercial partner will be announced in the second quarter of this year.

  • The LA28 Games will take place in 2028, a little over six years before Brisbane hosts in 2032.

  • Six years to go, milestones for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be marked mid-year.

Mr Liveris told IOC members the organising committee has advanced several core areas since its last update in March last year.

“Together with Games Delivery Partners, we’ve made significant progress since Brisbane 2032’s previous update to IOC Members in March last year,” he said.

He confirmed the Queensland Government’s 2032 Delivery Plan is in place, venues are underway, and procurement opportunities are now open.

“Our Games Vision has been announced, we’ve had significant interest from sports wanting to be part of our Games, and our streamlined Board and recently appointed Advisory Groups are leading our transition from planning phase to implementation and delivery,” Mr Liveris said.

He said the response from IOC members was positive.

“Our update to IOC Members was well received and warmly acknowledged that we are on track to welcome the world in 2032 and that we are open for business,” he said.

Zoom out

Ms Hook said the LA28 Games will be a key moment to introduce Brisbane 2032 to a global audience.

“Along with developing our unique narrative as part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Closing Ceremonies at the LA28 Games, we’re excited to build Australia House and showcase a little of what the world can expect from Brisbane, Queensland and Australia in 2032,” she said.

She confirmed Australia House will be located in a well-known part of Los Angeles and will highlight Australia’s identity and experiences.

“Our House will feature the very best of who we are, what we offer and what visitors can experience before, during and beyond our Games,” Ms Hook said.

She said more information will be shared closer to 2028.

“I look forward to revealing more details in the months ahead and have no doubt Australia House will be the place to visit and experience during the LA28 Games,” she said.

What to look for next?

Mr Liveris said 2026 will focus on refinement and endorsement.

“We’ll continue to refine our Venue Master Plan and Sport Programme, ready for endorsement following confirmation of the IOC’s Fit for the Future strategy as part of an IOC Session between June and December,” he said.

He said further commercial and procurement announcements are expected, along with confirmation of the sustainability strategy and preparation for the Emblems reveal.

“Our strategic direction is set and implementation is underway, with many more exciting announcements ahead!” he said.
