What’s happening?
Bravus Mining and Resources, through its Community Partnership Program, has awarded funding to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) North Australia to support the Townsville Family Room at Townsville University Hospital.
This room offers families of seriously ill children a comforting space, equipped with essential amenities like a kitchen, laundry, and play area, close to their child’s bedside.
Why it matters?
For regional Queensland families, accessing healthcare often means long, exhausting travel.
The Townsville Family Room provides a ‘home away from home,’ allowing families to recharge, refuel, and stay connected during challenging times, which reduces the strain of being far from home.
Bravus Mining’s contribution underscores its commitment to the wellbeing of communities where it operates.
Local Impact
Families across regional Queensland, particularly those far from major healthcare facilities, gain vital support through the services provided by RMHC.
The partnership between Bravus and RMHC ensures that regional families facing healthcare challenges have a comforting, supportive environment.
By the Numbers
- More than 14,500 people have used the facilities at the Townsville Family Room in 2024 alone.
- Around 1,500 regional Queenslanders rely on the Family Room’s free services and supplies every month, according to RMHC North Australia CEO Jennifer Clermont.
- Bravus Mining has awarded over $700,000 in grants since 2019 to community organisations, charities, and schools within its operational footprint, thanks to its Carmichael mine’s success and workforce efforts.

Bravus Mining and Resources Head of Community, Kate Campbell, shared that the partnership aligns with the company’s dedication to supporting regional communities: “In regional Queensland that ‘long way’ can mean hundreds and hundreds of kilometres… That’s why we think it’s so important to support the service the Ronald McDonald Family Room provides.”
This funding enables families to access comforts like a hot shower and stocked kitchen while remaining close to their children.
Zoom Out
Beyond Ronald McDonald House Charities, Bravus’s Community Partnership Program supports various community projects across central and north Queensland with grants of up to $10,000.
Other Round 3 recipients include Kirwan State High School’s F1 in Schools program, Everglow Community Care Links Inc for defibrillator provision, and Rockhampton’s School Savvy CQ for back-to-school support.
Ms Campbell highlights that “It’s the success of the mine and the efforts of the more than 1,200 men and women who work there that enable us to support not-for-profit organisations.”
