What’s happening?

BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort hosted its 20th annual Camp and sCare, a Halloween-themed family event that raised $15,008.87 for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) North Australia.

Families from across the region joined the event, which sold out well in advance, to camp and enjoy a range of spooky activities, with all proceeds directed to RMHC.

Why it Matters

Camp and sCare has become a significant charitable tradition in the Whitsunday community, bringing families together while providing much-needed financial support for vital services that assist local families.

This long-running event demonstrates the resort’s ongoing dedication to supporting charities that aid local residents in times of need.

Local Impact

Samantha Baker, Community Engagement Executive for the Mackay and Whitsundays region at RMHC North Australia, expressed her gratitude, saying, “Without this kind of support, we wouldn’t be able to offer the facilities we have in Mackay, as well as the Ronald McDonald House in Townsville.

More than a third of the families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Townsville are from the Mackay and Whitsunday region, and most of us know a family that have used these services during difficult times.”

Camp and sCare Event

By the Numbers

  • The event raised $15,008.87, providing substantial support for RMHC’s services in North Australia.
  • In 2023 alone, RMHC assisted over 2,200 families from Mackay and Whitsunday.
  • The Mackay Family Room served 1,350 families, with 240 families using sleep rooms. Additionally, 25 local students received educational assistance from the Ronald McDonald Learning Program.

Zoom In

Families at the event were treated to a Halloween experience packed with activities, from monster pancake breakfasts to spooky sand art and eerie discos.

The event’s highlight, the decorating competition, saw families transform their campsites and cabins into haunting scenes. As part of the weekend, guests also enjoyed access to the resort’s water park, animal park, and Halloween-themed outdoor movies.

Zoom Out

Camp and sCare is just one example of the BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort’s ongoing charitable initiatives, with the McKinnon family supporting the community in various ways throughout the year.

CEO Phil Casey remarked, “What the McKinnon family has given back to the community over this time is almost unequivocal.”

Past beneficiaries of the resort’s charity events have included Whitsunday Housing Co, RACQ CQ Rescue, and the Proserpine Community Centre.

What to Look For Next
