What’s Happening?
Townsville students are set to showcase their creativity and technical skills at the STEM Advanced Manufacturing Future Skills School Student Showcase on Friday, November 14, at St Anthony’s Catholic College in Deeragun. The local event will feature students presenting their innovative solutions to real-world manufacturing challenges, developed in partnership with local industry representatives.
Why It Matters
This initiative bridges the gap between education and industry, preparing Townsville’s next generation for careers in Queensland’s growing advanced manufacturing sector. The program equips students with practical experience in 3D design, problem-solving, and design thinking — skills essential for future innovation and employment opportunities across the region.
By the Numbers
• 5 Queensland cities are hosting showcase events across October and November, including Townsville.
• $7,500 in resources was provided to each participating school to enhance their 3D learning capabilities.
• 1 “shark tank” panel will give senior secondary students the chance to pitch their ideas to industry experts.
• 3 years of Makers Empire 3D design software access is included in each school’s support package.
• 1 statewide program — the Advanced Manufacturing Future Skills initiative — is strengthening STEM education and industry pathways.
Zoom In
Townsville students have spent months completing a custom manufacturing and careers challenge designed by Makers Empire, a 3D design and printing platform that introduces students to advanced manufacturing processes. Their projects address genuine industry issues, showcasing how local young minds can contribute to solving complex challenges through innovation and collaboration.
Zoom Out
The Advanced Manufacturing Future Skills Program is a Queensland Government initiative under the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development. Delivered by Makers Empire and Queensland Manufacturing Hubs, the program builds awareness of future career opportunities while promoting STEM learning in schools across the state.
Local Impact
For Townsville, this showcase underscores the region’s commitment to developing a skilled future workforce. By linking schools with local manufacturers, the program helps strengthen Townsville’s role as a northern hub for advanced manufacturing education and job creation.
What to Look for Next
As the program continues, more North Queensland schools are expected to participate in future showcases, ensuring that local students remain at the forefront of Queensland’s innovation and manufacturing future.
