What’s Happening?
A Townsville couple has come forward as North Queensland’s mystery Saturday Gold Lotto division one winners.
The pair finally checked their ticket after Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4673, drawn on Saturday, 2 May 2026.
Their unregistered entry matched one of three division one winning entries across Australia.
They will take home a total prize of $2,139,901.06.
The winning entry was sold at The Avenues News, 85 Burnda Street, Kirwan.
Because the ticket was not registered to The Lott Members Club, officials could not contact the winners.
They had to wait for the ticketholders to check their entry and come forward.
“It goes without saying – it’s great news!” the winning wife exclaimed.
“I checked the winning numbers in the paper yesterday and circled them one by one.
“Then I checked them against The Lott app, and I just couldn’t believe it. I had to double-check… then triple-check… then quadruple-check to make sure what I was seeing was real!
“We’ve been playing Lotto since it first started. The win has been a long time coming!
“We’re in complete disbelief that this has happened to us.
“We have beautiful children and grandchildren that we’d love to help out.
“Thank you!”
Why It Matters?
The win ends the search for Townsville’s mystery division one ticketholders.
It also shows why unregistered lottery entries can leave winners waiting without knowing.
The couple had been playing Lotto for decades before their long-awaited prize arrived.
For The Avenues News, the result is also a major milestone.
Owner Kaylene Turton said it was the first division one winning entry sold there during her time as owner.
“My sister and I have owned the outlet for about three years and during this time we have sold plenty of division two winning entries, but now we’ve finally hit our first division one win,” she said.
“How exciting for the customer that has just won $2.1 million! My god! Life changing!
“Congratulations to our winner. I’m sure we would’ve told you ‘You’ve got to be in it to win it!’ and now you’ve done it! How lucky!”

Local Impact
The win puts Kirwan’s The Avenues News in the spotlight.
The outlet, based at 85 Burnda Street, has now sold its first division one entry under Kaylene Turton’s ownership.
For Townsville, the result adds to a strong run of North Queensland lottery wins this year.
The couple also said they hope to help their children and grandchildren with the prize money.
That makes the win more than a single household windfall.
It could support several generations of a local family.
Zoom In
The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4673 were 29, 19, 18, 45, 34 and 9.
The supplementary numbers were 28 and 8.
The winning wife said she first checked the numbers in the paper.
She then confirmed them through The Lott app.
Her repeated checks show the shock that came with the result.
The entry being unregistered also made the moment more dramatic.
Without registration, The Lott could not call the winners directly.
Zoom Out
Lottery wins continue to carry wider community links beyond the prize money.
The Lott said Australia’s official lotteries contributed more than $1.66 billion last financial year.
That support came through state lottery taxes and donations.
It helped fund community initiatives including hospitals, health research, disaster relief and education.
The Lott also supports Play For Purpose, a not-for-profit charity raffle.
The raffle gives Australians a chance to win while supporting more than 500 causes nationwide.
What To Look For Next?
The Townsville couple now has the chance to plan how the prize will support their family.
Their comments suggest their children and grandchildren will be part of those plans.
At the time of the announcement, The Lott also said more major prizes were coming up.
Oz Lotto was offering $8 million, while Thursday’s Powerball had $20 million available.
