Carinity celebrates Townsville nurses

Mylene Mayo has served as a nurse in Philippines and Australia and currently supports seniors living in the Carinity Fairfield Grange aged care home in Townsville.

What’s happening?

Carinity is recognising aged care nurses in Townsville ahead of International Nurses Day.

The organisation paid tribute to nurses supporting residents at Carinity Fairfield Grange and other Queensland aged care homes.

Mylene said her passion for nursing began after seeing the care nurses gave her grandmother during illness.

“Witnessing the profound impact the compassionate care provided by nurses had on my grandmother during her illness ignited a strong desire within me to be part of their ranks,” she said.

Why it matters?

International Nurses Day highlights the work nurses do in caring for vulnerable people, including older Australians.

For Townsville families, aged care nurses play a key role in supporting seniors every day.

Mylene said nursing gives her the opportunity to keep learning while helping others.

“What resonates deeply with me about my profession is the continuous learning it offers, where every day unfolds with fresh challenges and experiences,” she said.

At Fairfield Grange in Townsville, Mylene said working with seniors creates lasting connections.

“The satisfaction of working with seniors stems from the meaningful bonds and relationships that naturally develop and deepen over time,” she said.

She said older residents share valuable wisdom and life experience.

“Seniors possess a wealth of wisdom and life experience that I find immensely enriching to tap into, to learn from them and gain valuable insights into life.”
