Townsville children are set to benefit from AusBike, a national cycling program designed for kids aged 5 to 12 by AusCycling. The initiative officially launched in the city this month, bringing a focus on fun, confidence and safe riding.
The program caters for all levels, from first-time riders to enthusiastic young cyclists. Using engaging activities, it teaches essential bike skills and safe riding habits in a supportive environment.

AusCycling says AusBike is about more than bike riding. It is about creating opportunities and leaving a lasting legacy in communities. Backed by funding from the 2022 UCI BMX World Championships, AusBike has been expanding into regional Queensland throughout 2025.
Local Impact
That legacy is being felt in Townsville, with a new fleet of twelve children’s bikes donated for local use. The bikes will be available for community rental, giving families and schools the chance to get kids riding both in and out of the classroom.
Teachers and students who have already experienced AusBike say the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Developed by experts, the school programs help children build confidence, independence and lifelong skills.
