What’s Happening?
Townsville police have charged 11 people with 48 offences following intelligence-driven proactive patrols across the city on 30 September.
Police allege several stolen vehicles were tracked throughout the day, with officers making arrests following incidents in Railway Estate, Hermit Park and other parts of Townsville.
The coordinated response involved the Townsville Tactical Crime Squad, General Duties, POLAIR and DTACC.
Why It Matters
The arrests were made as police targeted alleged property and vehicle-related offending through coordinated patrols and tracking operations.
The activity forms part of Operation Yankee Forge, a district-led statewide initiative targeting high-harm and high-volume offences. These include unlawful use of motor vehicles, unlawful entry and robbery.
The operation aims to reduce victim numbers and strengthen community safety through coordinated disruption and crime prevention activities.
Local Impact
The Townsville operation began at about 8.30am when police allegedly observed a stolen Nissan Qashqai being driven along Railway Estate.
Townsville Tactical Crime Squad officers and POLAIR tracked the vehicle before police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on Bowen Road. The Nissan was abandoned a short time later and three people were taken into custody.
At about 10.30am, police tracked a stolen Toyota Corolla Cross to The Avenue in Hermit Park. Two people allegedly attempted to flee on foot before police arrested them.
Later, at about 2pm, POLAIR tracked a stolen grey Toyota Hilux and blue Toyota RAV4. The Hilux was abandoned on Riverway Drive, while the RAV4 was abandoned on Dimmock Street before police made multiple arrests.
