Shine Lawyers’ annual Charity Golf Day is returning to Townsville in support of Brighter Lives.
The event will unite local businesses, supporters and community members through friendly competition, connection and shared purpose. Proceeds will support Brighter Lives and its work with health services across North Queensland.

Last year’s support has already produced a practical result, with new monitoring equipment now helping healthcare teams respond sooner. This gives the fundraiser a clear connection between community participation and better local care.
Local Impact
Last year’s proceeds helped purchase Mindray patient monitors, which now assist healthcare teams across the region.
The monitors continuously track vital signs, including heart rate and blood pressure, while also providing ECGs. Staff receive alerts when readings fall outside normal ranges, signalling that a patient may be becoming unwell.
This allows nurses and doctors to respond sooner and maintain closer monitoring throughout a patient’s care.

- The 2026 Golf Day aims to raise more than $26,000 for Brighter Lives.
- The Mindray monitors now support healthcare teams caring for 600 to 800 patients every month.
- The event will be held at Townsville Golf Club on Friday, 28 August 2026. Registration opens at 6.30am, followed by breakfast and coffee at 7am. The course briefing starts at 7.30am, with the shotgun start at 8am. Lunch begins at 1pm, followed by the awards ceremony at 2pm and the event’s conclusion at 3pm.

Brighter Lives has described the fundraiser as “so much more than a game of golf”. The organisation said its benefits continue through lasting improvements to healthcare across North Queensland.
Garreth Turner said the event gives people a practical way to support better care.
“The Golf Day has become a fantastic way to connect people who want to give back and support Brighter Lives’ important work,” Mr Turner said. “Last year’s event showed just how powerful community support can be. We raised $26,000 for Brighter Lives, and those funds are now helping healthcare teams provide faster, more continuous monitoring for hundreds of patients each month.”
“This year, we want to build on that success and make the day even bigger. Every player, sponsor and supporter helps Brighter Lives continue funding equipment, projects and initiatives that improve care for patients and families across North Queensland.”
He also thanked everyone whose time, sponsorship or donations have helped the event continue.
“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supports the Golf Day, whether by registering a team, sponsoring a hole, donating a prize or volunteering their time,” he said. “It is a fun day, but it also has a serious purpose. The funds raised help Brighter Lives continue making a positive difference for people who need care and support.”
