What’s Happening?
World Teachers Day Queensland on October 31 celebrated the dedication of educators shaping young lives every day. At Carinity Education Shalom in Townsville, teachers Meg Beaven, Laura Peleseuma, and Aden Bennett were recognised for their inspiring work and strong connections with students.
Why It Matters
Teachers are at the heart of every student’s success. For Carinity Education Shalom, World Teachers Day highlighted the importance of educators who nurture growth, guide pathways, and create a sense of belonging within a supportive community.
Local Impact
Carinity Education Shalom’s small school setting fosters deep relationships between teachers and students. Aden Bennett said, “Building meaningful connections and relationships with young people is what makes me love coming to work every day.”
He added that teaching Business for the first time became one of his most memorable experiences. “It reminded me that teaching is just as much about curiosity and collaboration as it is about content.”

VET Coordinator Meg Beaven said her favourite part of teaching is “the rapport you can build with students and the way you can see them grow over their time in the classroom.” She added, “Working with children is such a special privilege, and Carinity Education Shalom allows me to connect with students in meaningful ways every day.”
For Laura Peleseuma, the close-knit nature of the school makes all the difference. “I love being able to know each and every student,” she said. “It’s the small moments that are the best — the light-bulb moments, the breakthroughs, and the proud smiles.”
