Stable at Riverway: A Festive Tradition to Remember

Every year, Townsville comes alive with the spirit of Christmas, and this year is no different.

Townsville City Council has again thrown its support behind one of its most cherished and unique events, granting $50,000 towards Stable at Riverway.

A Christmas Tradition Like No Other

This heartwarming Christmas festival, previously known as Stable on the Strand, has been delighting the Townsville community for over two decades.

From the 18th to the 22nd of December, Riverway will transform into a magical Bethlehem, drawing over 30,000 people from near and far.

Bringing Bethlehem to Townsville

As the signature Christmas event of North Queensland, Stable at Riverway captures the essence of the timeless Bethlehem Christmas story.

Live animals, convincing actors, authentic props, and even a real Baby Jesus come together to immerse attendees in the true spirit of the season. This celebration welcomes families and people of all ages, ethnicities, and abilities.

A Christmas Wonderland for All

This festive extravaganza goes above and beyond, offering a wide range of family-friendly activities for everyone to enjoy.

From a sideshow alley, youth area, petting farm, and yarning circle to the oasis of hope, the Stable Express, and Raintree Grove, there’s something for all attendees. Plus, free Christmas cake, tea and coffee await at Raintree Grove.

Enchanting Entertainment and Culinary Delights

Two stages host excellent local singers and musicians, providing the perfect backdrop to your Christmas celebrations. The food fair ensures you’ll never go hungry, with a unique ‘food fiesta’ on Tuesday night featuring over 20 food trucks representing various tastes and cultures.

Thursday night becomes a ‘Christmas market night,’ perfect for last-minute Christmas shopping.

Adapting to the Challenges

Since 2020, the organisers have shown resilience in the face of challenges posed by the pandemic.

Stable at Riverway continues to thrive, offering the Townsville community an unforgettable experience filled with joy, hope, and the true meaning of Christmas—and it’s all for free.

Council’s Commitment to Community Well-being

The grant for Stable at Riverway is just one of eight grants and partnership proposals adopted at the Ordinary Council Meeting.

Townsville City Council recognises the vital contribution that community organisations make to the city’s social, economic, and cultural well-being.

More than $16,000 has been awarded to seven community organisations to support initiatives that align with the Council’s corporate priorities and improve the community’s well-being.

A Christmas to Remember

Don’t miss out on this festive extravaganza from the 18th to the 22nd of December—an experience that’s as heartwarming as it is enchanting.
