What’s Happening?
Townsville was searched during Operation Yankee Copperleaf, targeting members and associates of the Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang. The operation also covered Cairns, Mackay, Airlie Beach, the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Ipswich and the Gold Coast.
Detectives from Crime Command, the Organised Crime Gangs Group and Taskforce Maxima led the coordinated searches. Support came from the Major and Organised Crime Squad, Rural and Stock Crime Squad, regional detectives and tactical crime squads. Following the searches, police charged men identified as Rebels members and associates, while investigations continued.

Queensland Police said the operation aimed to limit the gang’s public display while supporting intelligence work. Detective Superintendent Troy Pukallus said it also reflected the service’s continued focus on organised crime and gang networks.
“The operation was intended to disrupt the Rebels OMCG’s ability to publicly display and promote their organisation while supporting ongoing intelligence gathering and organised crime investigations,” Detective Superintendent Pukallus said.
“OMCG’s have long been linked to serious and violent criminal activity, including drug trafficking, firearms, homicide, assault, extortion, and domestic and family violence offences. Our focus remains on protecting the community from the intimidation, fear and harm these groups can cause.”

Townsville was one of the operation’s search locations, although police did not release city-specific results. Therefore, the figures for warrants, charges and seizures apply to the statewide operation.
Across all locations, officers seized outlaw motorcycle gang vests, firearms, weapons, cocaine and other prohibited drugs.

- Police executed 25 search warrants simultaneously across eight Queensland locations on the day before announcing the results.

Investigators also focused on modified black vests allegedly worn in public by Rebels members. Police say subdued or blacked-out insignia preserved the design and layout of traditional Rebels colours. They allege the vests therefore continued to identify their wearers as gang members.
