Townsville’s Riverside Green Park in Douglas has just undergone a significant upgrade, with stage one of its $1,085,000 renewal project now complete.
The upgrade, which began in June, includes a new playground, shade sails, picnic shelters, and BBQ facilities, designed to offer an improved outdoor experience for local families.
A small dog off-leash area was also relocated and now features new shade shelters and a fresh entry point to the main dog off-leash area.

She mentioned the upcoming installation of an inclusive seat on the park’s five-bay swing, which is set to complete the playground amenities.
Townsville mum Paris Shaw also expressed her excitement about the improvements, sharing, “My daughter Poppy is two, so she’s at an age where she has a lot of energy and wants to play all the time. We love getting out to local parks to enjoy quality time outdoors.” As both a teacher and a mother, Mrs Shaw recognises the value of outdoor play and praised the park’s inclusive approach, noting, “I’m really glad to see the upgrades at Riverside Green Park include playground equipment for children and young people of all abilities.”
