What’s happening?
The Salvation Army has launched its annual Christmas Appeal, calling on the Townsville community to help raise $29 million nationally to support Australians doing it tough this festive season. With high prices and financial pressures affecting more families, the Salvos are urging locals to volunteer, donate, or give gifts to help ensure everyone can experience a joyful Christmas.
Why it matters
For many in Townsville, Christmas can bring extra financial and emotional pressure. The Salvos’ External Communications Manager for Queensland, Rendle Williams, said this year’s appeal is critical.
“For the Salvos, Christmas is the busiest time of the year, and this year will be no different,” he said. “For some, the idea of celebrating Christmas may seem out of reach as they can’t even work out where their next meal or utility bill will come from.”
Williams added, “Whether it’s practical support like food or presents, or if you are feeling lonely or isolated this Christmas, please reach out to The Salvation Army. We are here for you.”
