What’s Happening?

Townsville students will put their ideas in the spotlight at an industry showcase on Wednesday, 25 November 2026.

The event will run from 10 am to 1 pm at St Anthony’s Catholic College in Deeragun. Students will present projects developed through Queensland’s STEM Advanced Manufacturing Future Skills School Program.

After completing the two-term program, participants will share what they have learned about advanced manufacturing. They will also present potential solutions to challenges explored with industry partners.

Why It Matters

The program introduces primary and secondary students to Queensland’s advanced manufacturing industry while helping them develop new skills.

Rather than focusing only on classroom learning, students investigate challenges faced by manufacturing companies and explore possible solutions.

Through these activities, the program also aims to raise awareness of future careers in the industry.

Local Impact

At the Townsville showcase, students will present their chosen manufacturing problems and proposed solutions to an industry panel.

Senior secondary students will also have the opportunity to pitch their projects to a ‘shark tank’ panel.

As part of the presentations, participants will share the ideas and knowledge they developed throughout the program.

By The Numbers

  • $7,500: Value of the 3D learning package provided to participating schools.
  • 3 years: Makers Empire software subscription included in the package.
  • 8 cities: Queensland locations hosting student showcases across October and November.

Zoom In

Makers Empire introduces students to design thinking through 3D design and printing.

To support their learning, participating schools received a package containing a 3D printer bundle, filament and technical support. The package also includes access to Makers Empire’s design software.

In addition, students took part in industry immersion activities and future skills and career awareness days.

Zoom Out

The Townsville event forms part of a statewide series of student showcases taking place throughout October and November.

The Advanced Manufacturing Future Skills program is an initiative of Queensland’s Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development.

Meanwhile, Queensland Manufacturing Hubs and Makers Empire deliver the program, which supports skills development and awareness of manufacturing careers.
