What’s happening?
A Townsville local has won $1 million in a weekday draw held on Monday, 23 March 2026.
The North Queenslander bought his winning System 7 entry at The Lucky Charm Fairfield, Fairfield Shopping Centre, Shop T15, 2-30 Lakeside Drive, Idalia.
He did not learn about the win straight away, as he was at work and missed calls from lottery officials.
When he finally checked his ticket, he realised he had become a millionaire.
Why it matters?
The win could change life for the Townsville man and his family.
He said the prize means he can now work towards owning a home after renting for years.
It also gives him a chance to support his children.
He said, “I can finally fulfil my dream of owning my very own home. I’ve been renting for years and years. I am so excited!”
Local impact
The winning ticket was sold in Idalia, putting Townsville in the spotlight with one of Queensland’s two top-winning entries in the draw.
For locals, it is also a reminder that a life-changing prize can come from an ordinary ticket bought at a suburban shopping centre.

The winner said he had waited years for a result like this and never stopped believing it could happen.
“It’s unbelievable!” he said.
“I’ve been waiting a long time to win big! I’ve been playing for many years.”
“I missed your calls on Monday because I was at work but then I checked my ticket and I couldn’t believe it.”
He also spoke about people who had doubted him over the years.
“A lot of people have told me that it’s too hard to win but I’ve always said that if it’s too hard to win than no one would win!”
“This is a great help. I can’t believe it.”
The Townsville man said he plans to keep the news private for now.
“I’ll also look to help my kids.”
“I won’t tell anyone yet, just enjoy the winning moment to myself.”
“Thank you very much.”

The result came as more big prize pools remain on offer this week, with another national draw offering $10 million and Tuesday’s draw offering $4 million.
The wider figures also show the scale of official lottery activity across Australia, both in prize payouts and in funding returned to community initiatives.
Australia’s official lotteries also support a charity raffle that helps more than 500 causes across the country.
What to look for next?
For this Townsville winner, the focus is now personal.
His first goal is clear, to move from renting into a home of his own.
At the same time, he says he wants to help his children and quietly enjoy the moment before sharing the news.
